Summer Stretch

Summer Stretch is a special program for those participating in Confirmation in the upcoming school year.

This program ties in with Lord of Life’s mission statement extremely well. It is an opportunity for young people to Connect with Christ (short study), to Connect with the Community (doing service work), and to Connect to Each Other (fun summer activities).

Some of the past service recipients have been Forestview Middle School, the Race for the Cure, Camp Vanasek, Northland Arboretum and Feed my Starving Children. Some of the fun places and things we’ve done include the waterpark, mini-golf, go-cart racing, bowling, the beach, and Target Field.

Summer Stretch 2018 will meet on Thursdays starting in June for 6 sessions, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

A great way to meet people, hang with friends, have fun, and do something important during your summer.

Cost: $75 per student; includes all activities (lunch not included) and a t-shirt.

Registration deadline: May 20, 2018.

Summer Mission Trip

Each summer a mission trip is planned for 7th and 8th graders.

Here’s the deal: We think that every teenager should experience a mission trip that values relationships, respects communities and connects the hands of service with the heart of Jesus. Again and again we see quality mission trip experiences show students how to use their lives to love and value others better.

Generally speaking, this trip is within the Midwest region (ie, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin) and is roughly a week in length.

Summer Mission Trip

Each summer a mission trip is planned for our Senior High Youth (9th-12th grades). Trips  have been from Canada to New Orleans; from San Francisco to Atlanta and places in between and are typically a week to 10 days in length.

Northeastern Minnesota Synod Journey and ELCA National Youth Gathering

This event takes place every 3 years and is 10 days in length. The next journey will be in the summer of 2018 in Houston, TX.

The NE MN Synod portion of the trip is a 5-day experience that includes a stop or stops in a city and/or region on the way to the ELCA NYG. It is time spent in service and in learning. Typically about 400 students from churches in northeastern MN participate.

Approximately 36,000 youth and adult leaders from the United States participate in the National Youth Gathering which is hosted in various cities around the country (ie, Detroit, New Orleans, San Antonio, Atlanta). Participants experience God’s love during events that include Bible study, small groups, servant events, inspirational speakers and musical performances.

Our Confirmation Program helps fulfill our Mission Statement by connecting youth to Christ, our community and each other through a number of events.

In the Junior High (7th & 8th graders) Confirmation program, students and their small group mentors meet on Wednesday evenings to study scripture and Luther’s Small Catechism and explore ways to connect with Christ through prayer. Assisting with worship and our Wednesday supper program, as well as religious release and service opportunities round out the first two years of our three year confirmation program.

The final step in the Confirmation program begins with 9th grade and culminates with the Confirmation ceremony on Reformation Sunday (October) of the 10th grade year.  It has a variety of components including worship attendance and assisting, a faith mentor, Wednesday gatherings, retreats and mini-courses.
