Care For Creation Workgroup

The Caring for Creation Workgroup on ecology and the environment is grounded in a biblical vision of God’s intention for the healing and wholeness of creation. a Christian understanding of the human role to serve in creation, and a hope rooted in God\’s faithfulness to the creation from which humans emerge and depend upon for sustaining life. It focuses on an understanding of the human role in creation, the problem of sin and the current environmental crisis. The Care for Creation expresses a call to pursue justice for creation through active participation, solidarity, sufficiency and sustainability, and states the commitments of the ELCA for pursuing wholeness for creation — commitments expressed through individual and community action, worship, learning, moral deliberation, and advocacy.

Choir

The adult choir at Lord of Life meets at 7 p.m. every Wednesday. The choir sings two times a month at the traditional services and on the first and third Sunday of the month. They also sing for several other special services throughout the year such as Thanksgiving, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and Easter. Occasionally the choir collaborates with the Sunday morning contemporary band.

There are no auditions or requirements for singing in the choir and it is open to participants from high school on up. If you don’t read music but love to sing, they will help you learn how to follow and sing choral music. Weekly attendance isn’t a must but the more rehearsals you attend the better. Choir members do their best to attend most of the times the group sings.

Friends of ….

We have several informal groups within Lord of Life that support various local and regional ministries.  These groups do not meet on a regular basis, but come together when there is a specific need to gather.  As our church office receives information from specific ministries, it is often passed on to the “Friends of” group for their awareness and the ability to act upon it.

Currently, we have the following “Friends of…” groups operating in the church:

  • Friends of LutherCrest Bible Camp
  • Friends of Habitat for Humanity
  • Friends of Family Promise

God at the Movies

This is an informal group at Lord of Life that gathers from time to time to watch a movie in the theater and then go out for ice cream to discuss what they saw. Suggestions of upcoming movies are sought, and the only discussion question that gets asked is, “Where did you see God in that movie?”  The discussions are always lively and far-ranging.  It’s a great way to get to know people better.

Prayer Chain

Our mission is to faithfully lift up in prayer the needs and concerns of our church family and our loved ones, remembering what Jesus told us in Matthew 18:19-20: ” ‘Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.

There are no meetings of the Prayer Chain group per se.  But those who join the prayer chain are expected to attend a training session once-per-year.  Attendance at a training session is required to begin receiving Prayer Chain requests.
