Who is this for: Soon to be married couples from around the Brainerd Lakes area who are affiliated with local Lutheran churches.
Why: Through the topics covered here, couples explore their commitment to one another and build the foundation for a long and happy marriage together. In addition, attending this retreat along with individual counseling with pastors allows you to get a discount on a marriage license.
What topics will be covered: During this retreat, couples will learn about communicating with one another. These include topics from “The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.” Among these are connections, communication patterns to look out for and tips for solving disagreements. Attendees will also learn about the “Five Love Languages” by Dr. Gary Chapman, which are ways couples communicate with one another.

Presenter: Jenny Owens, MS, LMFT
Jenny Owens is the clinic director for Ellie Family Services in Baxter. Among other areas of practice, she provides couples and marriage therapy. Jenny focuses on making the people she is counseling feel heard, while guiding them toward solutions.
