“Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
-Genesis 12:1-3 – expanded reading: Genesis 12:1-9
So, you’re 75 years old and you are asked to pack up all of your possessions and take over someone else’s land. Right.
Oh, and God makes three promises to you: “I will make you a great nation, I will make your name great and you will be a blessing.” How did Abram know he would be accepted in the lands where God was leading him? Because he had faith.
Faith can help a person do all kinds of things. As scary as it is, faithful people will just trust that God is leading them in the right direction.
How do we know when we have enough faith? How do we assure ourselves that God is leading us? Or is the devil filling us with doubts about what to do?
If we have enough faith, when we pray and leave things in God’s hands, I believe that our decisions will just feel right in our hearts and guts.
These verses not only show us that we should trust God to lead us correctly, but they also teach us about obedience. There again, we can tell by our hearts and guts which choices are right. True faith in God makes things clear.
Prayer: O God, help me to know when you are leading me in the way you want me to go. Show me your way,
so I can be a blessing. I want to trust in you. Amen
