“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone because many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.”
-Acts 2:42-47
This passage brings my thoughts to the beginnings of Lord of Life Church and the community that has developed over the years. Shortly after we had moved to our house in the woods along the Mississippi River, a man came walking down our long gravel driveway.
“Hi, Darrell Pedersen here…’ We shook hands, talked a bit. He invited us to worship at Baxter School. We were members across town at Bethlehem at the time. We decided to check it out.
We found a handful of people meeting in the cafeteria. It wasn’t long until that space was too small and worship moved to the gym. Pastor Darrell confirmed Lord of Life’s first group of young people. Two of my kids were in that class of 10. And soon the discussion of building a church was floating around.
Take a look at the confirmation pictures displayed in the hallway that runs from the Narthex to the Sanctuary and you can see how this church has grown. “And day by day the Lord added to their number.”
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for our life here at Lord of Life. Bless us as we come to worship together, break bread together, nurture our youth together, and live our lives together in faith. Amen.
