Dear Church – A Love Letter from a Black Preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the U.S.
New Book Discussion Group Starting at Lord of Life
This old white guy, raised in the north woods, has had very little interaction with people of color other than Native Americans. Our country and world are wrestling with questions of racism and injustice. It is time for me to open my heart and mind to considering the prejudicial treatment people of color have experienced for centuries and to this very day in these United States of America. How should I respond? How might our church respond?
“Lenny Duncan is an unlikely pastor. Formerly incarcerated, formerly homeless and formerly unchurched, he is now a black preacher in the whitest denomination in the United States: The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Shifting demographics and shrinking congregations make the headlines, but Duncan connects the church’s lack of diversity to its lack of vitality. Part manifesto, part confession, and all love letter, Dear Church offers a bold new vision for the future of the church.”
Lolly Kalinoski and Darrell Pedersen will be leading a Zoom discussion of this book on Sundays, 10:45 a.m., beginning October 11th. This will be a chance to consider and discuss our own reactions to the horrific acts of racism and ensuing protests in recent months. And of our own denomination’s embrace of all the other folks with non-European roots who share this country with us. Books are available online from fortresspress.com or Amazon. To sign up for the class, please text or call Lolly at 218-829-8207. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89453155690 or call +1 312 626 6799 Meeting ID: 894 5315 5690 Hope to see you there
