Final Discovery Meeting Follow-Up: Lord of Life Church Discovery Process
Dear Lord of Life Congregation,
We want to thank everyone who participated in our summer Discovery process. It has been a season of reflection, growth, and discernment for our church. Guided by our Discovery Team and consultants, we spent the past few months reviewing:
- Where we have been as a church
- Where we are today
- Where God is calling us—individually and collectively
This journey has revealed both exciting opportunities and important challenges as we look ahead. Below is a summary of key findings from our sessions and interviews:
Highlights of Encouragement
- Pastor Erika’s leadership is a tremendous blessing and will be central to our future.
- We are in a strong position to make thoughtful staffing decisions without rushing.
- Attendance and giving are trending positively, with opportunities to reduce debt.
- Inactive families are returning, bringing renewed energy and optimism.
- There is a strong enthusiasm for youth ministries, with recent additions building on a solid foundation.
- A sense of joy and possibility is emerging as we envision the future of Lord of Life.
Areas to Consider
- Pastor Erika’s current workload is unsustainable; staffing support is needed.
- Ensuring the right pastoral fit is critical for a smooth transition.
- Financial momentum must be maintained with careful planning.
- Sustaining energy and unity will require intentional focus.
- Transparency and communication need improvement.
- Expansion of youth ministries and worship involvement is desired.
- Small group ministries and events are key growth areas.
- Our aging volunteer base needs replenishment to avoid burnout.
- Leadership changes may bring potential conflicts or require new models of governance.
- There is a risk of apathy and over-dependence on staff; lay leadership must be engaged.
- Balancing congregational care with broader community service remains a challenge.
Next Steps
The Discovery Team will meet with council personnel in the coming weeks to discuss pastoral and staffing needs. Your input has clearly defined the traits we seek in future pastoral leadership:
- Visionary leadership with delegation and empowerment
- Strong communication and preaching that connects faith to life
- Relational and pastoral care for all ages
- Deep faith and ability to inspire spiritual growth
- Energy, charisma, and engagement with youth and families
- Humility and collaborative spirit
- Focus on core pastoral duties with administrative support
- Presence in both congregation and community
These qualities will guide our search and discernment process. This transition marks a shift in our leadership model, and it will require patience, prayer, and active involvement from our congregation.
We will continue to keep you informed of milestones and opportunities to serve. If you have questions or ideas, please reach out to any member of the Discovery Team—we would love to share more about what we’ve learned.
With gratitude and hope,
